a. Definition: Lust is the illicit, uncontrolled, overwhelming desire which

originates from the old sin nature

1. There are many categories of lust, all of which relate to old sin nature

2. When it comes to lust, all members of the human race are in the same boat.

None of us are free from lust. If you are human, normal or abnormal, you have

lust problems

3. Because of the different categories of lusts, all believers do not function

under the same category

4. The category of lust in your life is directly related to both your personal

areas of weakness and your personal areas of strength in your old sin nature

5. The lust pattern of the old sin nature includes at least six categories

a. Power lust is the worst of all, for almost all other lusts are related to

this one, especially if you have any inferiority problems. B. Approbation lust

is merely one of the extensions of power lust, and it is separate because some

people do want approbation without power. A beautiful woman may not desire power

at all, but she certainly wants someone to tell her she's beautiful

c. Stimulation lust has many parts, in which we cater to the nerve centers and

functions of our body in the name of pleasure

(1) Sexual lust, or lasciviousness

(2) Drunkenness

(3) Drug addiction

(4) Mental stimulation or intellectual arrogance

d. Killer lust is the problem solving device of the weak. Inferior people trying

to prove they are superior often resort to violence, torture, murder. Some

people who live to kill love to kill and lust to kill

e. Anger lust or cruelty. Anger does not always but definitely can bring out a

cruel streak. F. Money lust is called by the Scripture the "root of all kinds of

evil." It expresses itself in all the categories of evil

1. Stage One: The Entrance into the Cosmic System: Arrogance

A. Arrogance is defined as inordinate self-esteem, vanity, an inflated concept

of self, and the exaggeration of one's own self-importance

B. Arrogance inevitably leads to disappointment

1. You do not get what you want, because you have some ideal that is not a part

of God's plan for your life

2. You get what you do not want, in various forms of sufferings

C. Arrogance puts self above God, and God's plan. Arrogance assumes superiority

2. Stage Two: Suffering and Cognitive Dissonance

A. An inevitable result of arrogance is suffering

1. The causes of the suffering: a. Unrealistic expectations about life, which

lead to disappointment. You do not get what you want

b. Legitimate suffering from Divine discipline, the Law of Volitional

responsibility, and the devil's world. You get what you do not want

2. The result of the suffering is cognitive dissonance

a. Cognitive dissonance is a difference between what one perceives the world to

be and what one experiences it to be

b. In cognitive dissonance, something has to give. Either the world view and

self image must change, or a rationale must be developed in order to explain the

dissonance

3. This is the first crisis stage of the cosmic system, and the first

opportunity to repent for the one involved

4. True repentance must be based on humility and an accurate understanding of

the person of God

5. True repentance is total humility in recognition of the essence of God, and

it includes a willingness to learn

3. Stage Three: The Cosmic Rationale

A. The cosmic rationale is the tool which is used to temporarily alleviate the

adverse effects of cognitive dissonance

B. The cosmic rationale is not a true problem solving device. In fact it leads

to even more problems

C. The cosmic rationale is an erroneous concept of the essence, capabilities,

and especially the attributes of God

D. The cosmic rationale is constructed in order to explain suffering without

sacrificing one's own pride and arrogance

E. The cosmic rationale says that God must be a certain way, and that's why I

suffered

F. The cosmic rationale almost always blames the suffering on God

G. Rather than take responsibility for the suffering, or at least perceive it in

the light of the truth, the arrogant person will construct a cosmic rationale

H. This cosmic rationale often sees one aspect of God without looking at the

whole picture. Typically, the justice of God is seen without the mercy or

goodness of God

I. 1 John 4:18, "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear,

because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in

love." 1. This passage points out a typical cosmic rationale: God punishes. This

rationale does not take into account God's love or faithfulness, and makes Him

seem arbitrary and unfair

2. On the other hand, understanding the love of God drives out fear, which is

the cosmic rationale

J. The cosmic rationale is therefore the basis for suffering

4. Stage Four: The Motivation, or Fuel in the Cosmic System: Bitterness. A.

Bitterness is the reaction against God for some life circumstance which you

don't like, and which is usually self-created through arrogance, Prov 19:3, "A

man's own folly ruins his life, yet his heart rages against the LORD." B. The

pattern is this: an arrogant predisposition followed by an unpleasant life

circumstance, followed by animosity towards God, or bitterness

C. Although God isn't always identified as the target of bitterness, ultimately,

he is. Rom 3:10-18 "As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;

there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away,

they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even

one. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of

vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their

feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of

peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes." D.

Bitterness is to be avoided if possible and eliminated if present

1. Eph 4:31, "Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander,

along with every form of malice." 2. Heb 12:15, "See to it that no one misses

the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile

many." 3. James 3:14, "But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in

your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth." E. Bitterness added to

arrogance equals motivation to stay in the cosmic system, and to live one's life

in opposition to God and his plan

F. Many, many believers become arrogant, bitter, and so live their lives as the

enemy of God

G. The solution to bitterness is humility and orientation to the goodness of God

1. Humility means that you recognize that God's essence and capabilities are

greater than your own, and so you have a predisposition to obey Him

2. Orientation to the goodness of God means that you recognize that His

decisions for your life are intrinsically good, and so you humbly accept them

5. Stage Five: Negative Volition to the Truth

A. With bitterness comes a rejection of God's communication to man: truth

B. With the rejection of the person of God comes the rejection of His message

C. There is a rationale: God caused me to suffer (a mistaken assumption),

therefore I will not listen to what He has to say

D. Therefore, negative volition is a symptom of arrogant bitterness

E. Negative volition may be expressed in one of two ways: 1. Apathy, or

ambivalence towards the truth, characterized by a state of distraction

2. Animosity, or declared war against the truth, characterized by a state of

concentration

D. Negative volition usually begins in apathy and moves towards animosity as

unhappiness intensifies with involvement in the cosmic system

E. Negative volition may occur at any point of the faith perception of the

truth: 1. Intake, or refusing to listen to the truth

2. Acceptance, or refusing to believe the truth

3. Inculcation, or refusing to organize the truth

4. Application, or refusing to use the truth

F. Usually, negative volition is concentrated at the intake and acceptance

stages, but not always

6. Stage Six: Acceptance of Cosmic Counterfeits and Lies

A. Whenever there is negative volition to the truth, a vacuum is created which

will suck in the lies and counterfeits of the cosmic system

1. Eph 4:17-19 "So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must

no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the emptiness of their thinking. They are

darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of

the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost

all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge

in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more." 2. Titus 3:9 "But

avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the

law, because these are unprofitable and empty." 3. 1 Cor 3:19-20 "For the wisdom

of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the

wise in their craftiness" and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the

wise are empty."" B. A vacuum is not very discriminating - it will suck in any

kind of vile material once created

C. In the same way, the believer with a vacuum in his soul will accept almost

any lie, no matter how ludicrous

D. Because accepting the truth would cost them so much, they would rather accept

a ludicrous lie as fact

7. Stage Seven: Spiritual Blindness

A. Whenever you have consistent negative volition to the truth in the soul, and

substitute it with the lies of the enemy, you will develop a blind spot

1. 1 John 2:9,11 "Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is

still in the darkness." "But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and

walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the

darkness has blinded him." A. Hatred in these verses is the rejection of the

doctrine of virtue love

b. The darkness is the cosmic system

c. If you live in the darkness all the time, you will lose your ability to see

were darkened." B. Blindness is the inability to understand Bible truth

1. Consistent negative volition to the truth results in an inability to perceive

it at all

2. Blindness denotes that the truth becomes meaningless to those who cannot

understand it

C. Blindness as applied to unbelievers refers specifically to the gospel, 2 Cor

4:4 "The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they

cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of

God." 1. Consistent negative volition to the Gospel means that the unbeliever

could not even understand if it were explained to him in great detail

2. The unbeliever cannot understand any other part of the truth because he lacks

a human spirit and the filling of God the Holy Spirit

3. In common grace, God the Holy Spirit acts as a human spirit and fills the

unbeliever so that the gospel can be understood

4. Blindness overrules the common grace ministry of the spirit

D. Blindness may be healed in the less severe cases by the removal of arrogant

bitterness and the renewal of positive volition

E. Blindness may be permanent in the more severe cases. 8. Stage Eight: The Lust

Pattern and the Addiction Cycle

A. The frantic search for happiness

1. Spiritual blindness causes misery in the following ways: a. Misery through

Divine discipline

b. Misery through the Law of volitional responsibility

c. Misery through the ignorance of blindness itself

2. Misery impels the spiritually blind to search for happiness through

fulfilling the lust pattern of the old sin nature

3. The Lust Pattern is generally related to three things in life: a. People

b. Things

c. Circumstances

4. Because people, things, and circumstances cannot bring happiness, the

spiritually blind frantically go from one category to the next, in hopes that

they will find the magic formula

B. The backlash syndrome

1. The frantic search for happiness always results in a backlash of misery

2. The more you search for happiness in people, things, and circumstances, the

more misery you bring on yourself

3. The more misery you bring on yourself, the more you think you need

stimulation in the form of lust to become happy

C. The Attack against the soul: Addiction

1. Introduction

a. This attack is designed to enslave the soul of the unbeliever to the lust

pattern of the old sin nature, so that volition is removed, and giving in to

temptation is automatic

b. When addiction is achieved, damage to the soul begins to pile up, and various

neuroses sets in

c. When addiction is achieved, the person comes under demon influence, and even

demon possession

d. When the neuroses are perpetuated long enough, psychoses set in, and

permanent soul damage begins to pile up

e. With psychoses comes the destruction of the soul, and the impossibility of

recovery

2. The lust pattern of the old sin nature

a. There are many categories of lust, all of which relate to old sin nature

b When it comes to lust, all members of the human race are in the same boat.

to be entertained. The flip side of this is boredom

e. Gambling addiction

4. Killer lust. This is the inordinate desire to kill other human beings

5. Emotional lust. This is the inordinate desire to give up emotional control,

either positive or negative. The negative end of the spectrum is anger. The

positive end is ecstasy

6. Money lust. This is the inordinate desire for money and the things that it

buys. This is often accompanied by the workaholic syndrome

f. The levels of degeneracy

1. There are three levels of degeneracy in the lust pattern of the old sin

nature

2. Each level represents a breakdown in the defenses of the laws of divine

establishment and the four divine institutes

3. Level one: Non-criminal behavior

4. Level two: Non-felonious illegal behavior

5. Level three: Criminal behavior

g. The layers of addiction

1. Addictions may be layered one on the top of the other, making the cycle even

more complex

2. Example: a person may become an alcoholic because of his inability to deal

with his sexual addiction

3. In this case, the root addiction must be found and dealt with first, before

the surface addictions can be dealt with

3. The addiction cycle

a. The Biblical statement of the problem. Rom 7:14-25. "We know that the law is

spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. [addiction to the lust

pattern of the old sin nature.] I do not understand what I do. For what I want

to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. [unable to use his volition to

recover.] And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As

it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. [the sin

nature has total control of the soul.] I know that nothing good lives in me,

that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I

cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I

do not want to do--this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do,

it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. So I find

this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my

inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members

of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of

the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will

rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our

Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful

nature a slave to the law of sin." B. How the addiction cycle gets started.

1. The foundation to the addiction cycle: erroneous core beliefs

a. I am basically a bad, unworthy person

b. No one would love me as I am

c. My needs are never going to be met if I have to depend on others

d. The source of my addiction is my most important need

2. Environments conducive to the addiction cycle

a. An unstructured environment with high performance expectations. Examples:

Graduate schools and sales jobs

b. A highly structured environment with very little mental stimulation. Example:

the factory worker

c. A highly visible environment with great pressures for model behavior.

Examples: the sports star, the politician, and the minister

d. The out of work individual who is on welfare

3. The common bond to all: the progression of self-doubt

4. The nemesis to all: procrastination

a. Procrastination increases the pressure to perform

b. The pressure to perform leads to mounting doubt, and feeds the fire of

addiction

5. Events conducive to the addiction cycle

a. Abandonment. Examples: Divorce, death of a loved one, child abuse, etc

b. Stimulation in the category of weakness

6. Signs that the addiction cycle has begun

a. Using lust to cope with stress

b. A search for the efficient provision of opportunity to satisfy one's lust

c. Episodic binges in the area of weakness

d. Guilt or concern about satisfying the lust pattern

e. Loss of self worth, and an inability to trust yourself

f. Incongruency between feelings of exhilaration and degradation

g. The catalysts to the binges correspond to the first episode of excess

h. Perception of one's behavior as experimental, occasional, or short-lived,

when in reality, it is regular, periodic, or increasing in frequency of

intensity

i. Feeling exhilarated from the danger of acting out or the possibility of

detection

7. Signs that the addiction cycle is fully established

a. Preoccupation becomes a routine way to cope with stressful situations

b. Rituals emerge which precede acting out

c. Regular behavior may be charted accurately

d. Behavior becomes a priority over other meaningful aspects of life

e. Periods of depression are sometimes followed by efforts to curb or stop

behavior

f. Behavior and unmanageability confirm destructive core beliefs about self

g. Thought processes distort reality, creating unrealistic confidence and

negating potential problems

h. Wrong priorities causes complication in family, work, relationships, and

values, and the addict starts to live a double life

c. How the addiction cycle perpetuates itself

1. There are core beliefs which set up the perceived need for the object of

addiction

2. There is a combination of environment and circumstances which are conducive

to the addictive cycle

3. The addict goes into the preoccupation stage, where the problems of life are

avoided by obsession with the object of addiction

4. There is a ritualization of activities which lead to the addictive behavior

5. The addict engages in the addictive behavior. The behavior itself is quite

compulsive, overriding the addict's volition

6. The addict experiences despair because he is disappointed in the ability of

the behavior to bring long-term happiness, and he realizes that he is

"different" from normal people. The shame and guilt of this despair isolates the

addict

7. The despair leads to a reinforcement of the wrong core beliefs, and so the

cycle begins again

8. After a time, the addict's thinking becomes impaired, and his sense of

reality is distorted

9. After a time in unreality the addict's life becomes completely unmanageable,

and he begins to lose the things that are valuable to him

4. The twisted family: Satan's environment for nurturing addicition to the lust

cycle

a. The four generation curse

1. The statement of the phenomena

a. Exo 20:4 ""You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in

heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow

down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God,

punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth

generation of those who hate me," b. Deu 5:8-10 "You shall not make for yourself

an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in

the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the

LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the

fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing

love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."

2. The details explained

a. Each generation makes its own decision about their relationship with God.

This is implied by the qualifier "of those who hate me" b. Children can never

blame their problems on their parents. Every generation is responsible for its

own problems, Prov 30:11-14 "There are those who curse their fathers and do not

bless their mothers; those who are pure in their own eyes and yet are not

cleansed of their filth; those whose eyes are ever so haughty, whose glances are

so disdainful; those whose teeth are swords and whose jaws are set with knives

to devour the poor from the earth, the needy from among mankind." C. God is

ready to bless any and every generation, Psa 100:5 "For the LORD is good and his

love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations." D.

The four generation curse is perpetuated by the horrible environment that

addictive parents create for their children

e. Parents involved in the addiction cycle have no idea about how to raise

children, and usually bungle things badly

f. They create an environment that is conducive to addiction in their children

g. The four generation curse is broken when the children become believers in

Jesus Christ, and grow up through Bible Truth

h. The children of Isaiah's generation broke the four generation curse, and

blessing came to Judah as a result, 2 Ki 18-19

b. The circumplex model of family structure. Credited to David Olson, Douglas

Note: Psychology is becoming more and more efficient at observation and

categorization. However, it is impossible to generalize concerning any one

family, no matter how extreme that family may be. Use this as a general tool for

evaluation only

1. Adaptability. This is the ability of a family to organize and reorganize

itself. It affects leadership, discipline, negotiation, roles, and rules. A.

Rigid. Rigid families use extremely autocratic decision-making styles in which

there is limited negotiation and strictly defined roles and rules

b. Structured. Structured families mix authoritarian with some equalitarian

leadership, resulting in very stable roles and rules

c. Flexible. Flexible families use equalitarian leadership seeking negotiated

agreements, making for easily changed rules and roles

d. Chaotic. Chaotic families have erratic and ineffective leadership which

results in impulsive decisions, inconsistent rules, and role reversals

2. Cohesion. Cohesion is how closely a family sticks together. It affects

emotional bonding, parent-child coalitions, marital relationship, family

involvement, personal boundaries, decision making, friends, interests,

recreation

a. Disengaged. Desengaged family members distance themselves from one another,

maintaining extreme separateness and little family loyalty

b. Separated. Separated families mix emotional independence with some

involvement and joint effort and occasional family loyalty

c. Connected. Connected families emphasize emotional closeness, family loyalty,

and joint efforts while allowing for some individuality

d. Enmeshed. Enmeshed families demand extreme family closeness and family

loyalty and allow for little individuality

c. The realms of structure

1. The circumplex model functions within many different realms, and each family

may differ in structure within those realms

2. Sex, religion, work, recreation, and sibling relationships are some of the

realms in which the circumplex model exists

3. The model may differ in each realm

d. Perception

1. Different family members may have a completely different perception of the

family structure

2. A child may see the family's adaptability as rigid, while the parents see it

as only structured

e. The normal family

1. There is no such thing as an ideal family. There is no perfect standard for a

family in the circumplex model

2. As a general rule, families with younger children tend to be more rigid and

involved in the addiction cycle

5. Reverse Addiction

a. Reverse addiction is the addiction to avoiding bad circumstances

b. Reverse addiction is related to the fear category of the emotional part of

the lust pattern

c. The reverse addict will be preoccupied with the avoidance of one or more

specific circumstances which are deemed terribly bad by him

d. The reverse addict will ritualize his life in order to minimize the chance

that he will encounter his pet peeve

e. In essence, the reverse addict is addicted not to a pleasant experience, but

to the avoidance of an unpleasant one

f. Often, reverse addicts gain their status because they are in the addictive

cycle in some other category

7. Demonism and addiction

a. When the addictive cycle is initiated, the person becomes especially

vulnerable to demonism

b. For unbelievers this means demon influence, and even demon possession

c. For believers this means demon influence only

d. Demon possession is the physical occupation of the human body by a fallen

angel

e. Demon influence is the demonic control of the soul through demonic thought

transfer, or telepathy

1. Demon influence is a more severe case of the acceptance of cosmic

counterfeits and lies

2. Demon influence begins when the addiction cycle has been established, and the

will of the person involved is weak

3. The substance of demon influence is the control of the soul through the

doctrine of demons, 1 Tim 4:1-2, The Spirit clearly says that in later times

some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by

demons. {2} Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences

have been seared as with a hot iron. 4. Demonic control of the soul can only

5. When control is freely surrendered, then almost any Satanic doctrine will be

almost automatically accepted and put into action by the person in question

6. The more you give in to the addiction cycle, the more power you give over to

the enemy

7. The more power the enemy has, the more control he gains in the soul

8. The more demon influence a person suffers under, the more neurotic he will

become

f. Almost universally, addicts will comment on the cleverness of their

addiction, and how it seems to have a mind of its own

g. They all think that the addiction is a genius, and fools them into getting

involved in the cycle again and again

h. Many addicts have a pet name for their addiction - such as "the beast" -

because it seems to be so personal

i. All of these things are manifestations of demon influence in the addictive

cycle

j. The only way to overcome the demon influence is through the faith perception

of the truth

k. Principle: Human I.Q. is much less than demon I.Q

l. Principle: Biblical Truth I.Q. is much more than demon I.Q. It is the mind of

Christ

m. Conclusion: The only way to overcome demon influence is through the faith

perception of the truth

9. The Results of Involvement in the Addiction Cycle: Neurosis and Psychosis,

Stages Nine and Ten

Introduction: 1. Involvement in the addiction cycle can and usually does result

in neurotic and psychotic conditions

2. However, the addiction cycle is not the only source of these conditions

3. There may be medical reasons for the existence of neurosis or psychosis

4. Demon possession may also result in apparent mental illness, which goes away

when the demons leave the body

A. Neurosis

1. Definition. A Neurosis is an emotional disturbance in which high levels of

anxiety, exaggerated fears, tension, exteme shyness, or other sources of

discomfort cause a person to seek relief by adopting rigid defense mechanisms

and unusual or self-defeating behavior patterns

2. Typically neurosis grows out of the addiction, or reverse addiction cycle

a. Consistent abnormal behavior, coupled with disorientation to the truth,

results in neurosis

b. When the addict knows that he has a problem, and yet rejects the truth again,

and accepts the cosmic counterfeits again, neurosis is an inevitability

c. Basically, the addict who repeats steps one through three of the cosmic

system is doomed to mental illness

d. The cosmic counterfeit problem solving devices result in a terrible mess, and

add fuel to the fire of misery

2. The general characteristics of neurosis

a. Extreme mood swings, from excitement to depression

b. Manic speech, which is loud, rapid, and difficult to understand

c. Hyperactivity

d. Distractability, and lack of ability to concentrate

e. Inflated human self-esteem, or an irrational sense of worthlessness

f. Excessive guilt reaction to past or present sins

g. Fearfulness and irrational anxiety

h. Excessive concern over inconsequential things

i. Obsession with suicide

j. Unfounded suspicion of people and institutions

k. A general loss of sensitivity, and lack of a true sense of humor

l. An acute problem with authority, and an unhealthy awareness of human power

and authority structures

2. There are six basic categories of neuroses. Dennis Coon, Essentials of

Psychology

a. Anxiety neurosis (also known as panic disorder). 1. This is a neurotic

pattern characterized by continuous tension or anxiety that occasionally

explodes into episodes of intense panic. 2. Anxiety attacks are the symptoms of

this neurosis, and they may last a few minutes or a few hours

3. In an attack, the person often feels that he cannot breathe or that he is

having a heart attack, going insane, or is about to die. 4. An anxiety attack

can be triggered by almost anything

b. Phobic neurosis. 1. Phobias are irrational fears that persist even when there

is no real danger to a person. 2. Phobias may be attached to almost any object

or situation. 3. Phobias produce symptoms such as heart palpitations, vomiting,

wild climbing and running, and fainting. 4. The phobic person is so threatened

that he will go to almost any length to avoid the feared object or situation

c. Hysteria, also known as the histrionic personality disorder

1. This person has an excessive need for attention

2. They are often inappropriately sexually seductive in appearance and behavior

3. They are overly concerned with physical attractiveness

4. They express emotion with inappropriate exaggeration

5. They have rapidly shifting and shallow emotional expression. They throw

temper tantrums

6. They have frequent flights into romantic fantasy

7. They can also experience psychosomatic illnesses, or what is known as a

conversion reaction

a. This occurs when anxieties or severe emotional conflicts are converted into

physical symptoms resembling disease or disability

b. The physical symptoms of a conversion reaction usually serve to excuse the

person from a threatening situation. Examples: glove anesthesia, and hysterical

pregnancies

d. Dissociation. 1. Dissociation is a form of neurosis marked by striking

episodes of amnesia, fugue, or multiple personality

2. Dissociation is the establishment of an abnormal fantasy life, normally

established in childhood, which is used to escape extremely abusive situation.

e. Obsessive-compulsive disorder. 1. Obsessions are thought or images that

intrude into consciousness against a person's will

2. These may center on images of one's own violent death, feelings of being

dirty, or just a simple loss of control. 3. Obsessions usually give rise to

compulsions, which are irrational acts a person feels driven to repeat

4. Typically the compulsive act helps control or block out anxiety cause by the

obsession

5. Compulsive rituals make a person feel more secure by keeping activities so

structure that unexpected upsts are prevented

f. Neurotic depressive reactions. 1. Here sadness and despondency are

exaggerated and prolonged for unreasonable periods of time

2. The symptoms of neurotic depression are: lack of energy, unhappiness, limited

movement, an extremely negative self-image, loss of sense of humor, and a loss

of interest in other people

3. Neuroses are developed when a person spends an excessive amount of time in

the addiction cycle, including reverse addiction

4. Involvement in the cosmic system up through stage five results in an acute

disorientation to reality

5. If you are arrogant, become bitter towards God, reject His truth, accept the

cosmic counterfeits, and let loose of the restraints on your lust pattern, then

reality is going to be a foreign concept to you

6. It is very, very difficult for a neurotic to recover to a normal life

7. In order to recover, a neurotic often needs professional help, because his

problems have become so complex that they are extremely difficult for him to

sort out with his already impaired intellect

8. By the time neurosis sets in, there may be some permanent soul damage

9. It is only through humility and orientation to the truth that the neurotic

can recover. This may take many years

10. Consistent faith perception of the truth may even be painful, but the pain

of the truth is better than the pain of neurosis

B. Psychosis. 1. Definition. Psychosis is a severe form of mental illness in

which contact with reality is lost

2. Psychosis comes in two categories

a. The medical category, where the psychotic is in an involuntary state, brought

on through various means

1. Body chemistry. A. Irresponsible use of narcotics may bring on a temporary

psychosis. B. Prolonged abuse of the drugs may make the psychosis permanent

c. Some people have a natural imbalance or deficiency of the chemicals needed by

the brain for clear thought

2. Physical injury

a. A blow to the head, or one that penetrates the cranium may bring on psychosis

b. An infection from an injury to any part of the body may also bring on

psychosis

3. Sleep deprivation. Human beings have a mental need for sleep and dreaming.

Without it, they go insane

b. The arrogant category

2. Some of the major characteristics of psychosis are as follows: a. Presence of

delusions

1. Delusions are false beliefs that are held even when the facts contradict them

2. There are four basic types of delusions

a. Depressive delusions, where the person feels he has committed some horrible

crime or sinful deed

b. Somatic delusions, such as a belief that one's body is rotting away, or

emitting foul odors

c. Delusions of grandeur, in which the individual thinks that he is an extremely

important person

d. Delusions of influence, in which the person feels that he is being controlled

or influenced by other persons or unseen forces

e. Delusions of persecution, in which the person feels that others are out to

get him

b. Hallucinations and sensory changes

1. Hallucinations are sensory experiences that occur in the absence of a

stimulus. Examples: hearing voices, feeling insect crawling under your skin,

smelling smoke

2. Sensory changes may bring about extreme sensitivity to heat, cold, pain, or

touch, or a loss of one of the senses

c. Emotional disturbances

1. Extremely violent emotional swings between depression and elation

2. Complete loss of emotion

3. The categories of psychosis

a. Paranoid psychosis

1. The major characteristic of the paranoid is delusion, which can be in either

the grandeur of the persection category

2. The paranoid cannot be talked out of his delusion - the delusions are

absolute reality to him

3. The paranoid is dangerous, because he may lash out at almost anyone who may

fit the profile of his persecution-type delusions

b. Manic-depressive, or affective psychosis

1. The manic individual throws himself into a whirlwind of activity

characterized by extreme distractibility, rapid shifts in thoughts, constant

talking, and restless movement

2. Depressive reactions show a reverse pattern in which feelings of failure,

sinfulness, worthlessness, and total despair predominate. The individual becomes

extremely subdued and withdrawn and frequently becomes intensely suicidal

3. Manic and depressive reactions are closely related. This is a true binary

system where one reaction supports and brings on the other

c. Schizophrenia. 1 person in 100 in the U.S. will become schizophrenic. 1.

Definition: Schizophrenia is an extreme disparity and incongruency between

thought and emotion. The emotions may become flat or just completely

inappropriate to the situation

2. Characteristics: Withdrawal from social contact; loss of interest in external

activities; a breakdown in personal habits and hygiene

3. Many of the homeless are simple schizophrenics

4. Types of schizophrenia: a. Hebephrenic, where the person is silly, laughing,

bizarre, and obscene

b. Catatonic, where the person is for all intents and purposes a statue

c. Paranoid, where the person is like the regular paranoid, except the

personality breakdown is much more severe

4. Treatment for the psychotic

a. The psychotic has soul damage that must be treated. The psychotic has no

possibility to recover by himself

b. Treatment may result in a complete return to normalcy

c. Not all psychotics are treatable

d. Treatment may include medication, psychotherapy, electro-shock therapy, or

even surgery

e. The objective of treating a psychotic is to return him to reality, so that he

can grow through faith perception of the truth and even recover completely

f. Medical psychosis does not require faith perception of the truth or

psychotherapy for recovery, although it probably would not hurt

g. Psychotherapy is the system of return to reality through assistance

8. The Ultimate Aim of the Cosmic System: A Satanic Millennium

A. It is Satan's goal to be like God. Indeed, he thinks himself like Him

already. Isa 14:13-14, "You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will

raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of

assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the

tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High."" B. Satan gained

rulership of this world through the sin of Adam. It was Adam's world until then,

Heb 2:14 "Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their

humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of

death--that is, the devil--" C. The cosmic system is designed to enslave the

human race, so that Satan can bring in his counterfeit millennium

D. Internationalism is Satan's ultimate aim, and the direct enemy of the

divinely established concept of nationalism

E. Communism is the ultimate expression of internationalism, and is satanically

inspired

F. Communism is not dead, it's just changed its name. Beware! G. Satan will

ultimately establish his international government, but only after all believers

are raptured. H. It is impossible for him to accomplish his aim while there are

still believers on planet earth! I. The international government of Satan will

fail miserably, even without the pesky interference of mature believers

J. The time of Satan's total rule of planet earth will be so bad it will be

called the tribulation

9. Satanic Attempts at Destroying the Future Works of God

A. The attempt to destroy the line of Christ

1. Angels seduced human women and the women had children by them

2. This created a race of half-men, half angels who were very quickly destroying

the racial purity of humans

3. By doing so, Satan was attempting to destroy the line of Christ

4. If Christ was not fully man and fully God, then He could not be the true

mediator between man and God, and His work on the cross would be null and void

5. Therefore, God flooded the earth, and the only humans preserved were the

family of Noah, who had kept themselves pure

B. The attempt to kill Jesus Christ during the incarnation

1. As a child, Mat 2:13 "When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to

Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said, "take the child and his mother and escape

to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the

child to kill him."" 2. During his ministry, Mat 12:14 "But the Pharisees went

out and plotted how they might kill Jesus." Luke 13:31 "At that time some

Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, "Leave this place and go somewhere

else. Herod wants to kill you."" Lk 19:47

3. The cross, Mat 26:4 "and they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and

kill him." Mark 14:1 This one backfired

C. The attack against the Jews

1. The Jews in the milennium who are believers in Jesus Christ are God the

Father's final witnesses and evidence in the case against Satan

2. In Satan's irrationality, he believes that if he can destroy the Jews in the

church age, then God will have no case in the millennium

3. This is the rough equivalent to bumping off an eyewitness in a trial case (It

happened in Denver last year)

4. In every generation there is a demonically inspired conspiracy to destroy the

Jews. This conspiracy includes: a. Slander, such as the "Jewish world

conspiracy" rumors that come out from time to time

b. Physical violence against Jews and any Jewish institution or property.

"Krystalnacht"

c. Attempts at genocide, or racial extermination, such as Nazi Germany and the

Soviet Union

5. Any person, organization, or nation that is involved in Anti-Semitism on any

level will be wiped out by the justice of God. See Num 22-24, or talk to Adolph

Hitler

6. Anti-semitism is rising at an alarming rate in the U.S. If we persist, we

will be destroyed

7. The principle of anti-semitism does not supersede the Law of Volitional

responsibility for individual Jews

8. Divine discipline of the Jews will continue until their collective repentance

during the last half of the tribulation

9. Your personal evaluation of individual Jews should be on the basis of

impersonal love

10. Your personal evaluation of the Jews as a nation (such as the present nation

of Israel) should be on the basis of the laws of Divine establishment

10. Summary and Conclusion

A. There are two levels of the Cosmic system: The personal level, and the

worldwide level

B. Demons are organized in a military fashion to execute the plan of Satan, Eph

6:12 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers,

against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the

spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." C. On the personal level,

there is a system designed to enslave each person, so that they cannot

accomplish God's plan

1. It is designed to keep unbelievers from believing in Jesus Christ

2. It is designed to destroy believer's relationship with God

D. On the worldwide level, Satan is trying to bring in his own millennium, so

that he can prove that he really is like the most high God

E. Angelic creatures are much, much more intelligent than human beings

F. Human beings without a relationship with God, and without Bible truth, are

very easy to deceive

G. It is only through Bible Truth that a believer can exceed angelic intellect,

and that because the bible is the mind of Christ, 1 Cor 2:16 ""For who has known

the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ."

H. Life in the Cosmic System is misery and death, but life in the plan of God is

light and peace, Rom 8:6 "The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind

controlled by the Spirit is life and peace;" I. Therefore, there are two

mandates for every human being who would enjoy the best that this life and the

next has to offer
