Until the Son of God was revealed to the angels, Lucifer held the highest place within the revealed Creation. We can no doubt trace Lucifer's first prideful thought of rebellion to his jealousy of the Son when He was revealed initially in an angelic form as "the angel of the Lord". In his heart, the terrible thought was birthed that worship ought . . . . no, must . . . go to him. So the beautiful, covering cherub became Satan, the liar, deceiver and murderer. Ever since, the single true battle of the ages has been over this one question: |
|
Will it be God? Or will it be Satan? This battle is not far off. It takes place every day (no, every moment) in the world and in the professing church. |
We see the naked purpose of the evil one to steal worship revealed in his temptation of Jesus. We will see it one last, terrible time when the mark of the beast is distributed to a worshipful mankind. |
Too often, we think of worship as though it has to do with a few hymns, songs or choruses. It is far greater than that, though it includes it. Worship is the setting forth of the praise, gratitude and obedience that God deserves at all times. We can and must live worship. It is not a Sunday performance but an entire way and life. This is why true worship has spiritual power. It is the embodiment and fulfillment of our Lord's prayer that God's will would be done on earth as it is in heaven. |
